It’s that time of year… Don’t forget to return your books to avoid fines as the school year comes to an end! There are book return slots in the Check-Out Desk and the security desk, near the library’s main entrances.

If you need to return a book while the library is closed, you can use the drive-up book drop boxes at the front of campus. These two boxes are located in the turnaround at the University Parkway entrance to campus, near the flagpoles, and are labeled as “library book drop.”

A walk-up drop box is located at the northeast corner of the Pfau Library building, just outside the alcove that holds the elevators and stairwell.

View all the book drop locations in our video About the Library (start at time marker 2:33).

You can use the drop boxes to return library materials any time the library is closed. But if the library is open, it’s best to return your books inside the library to avoid fines. The outside drop boxes are checked only once a day, in the morning.

Please note that any items checked out from the Reserves Desk must be returned to the Reserves Desk only.

He began his career as a typographer’s apprentice, became a reporter for the Catholic newspaper, El Tiempo, during the 1890s, and by 1900 was a staff photographer. He worked as a freelance photographer for El imparcial and El Mundo Ilustrado during the first decade of the both century, then established the Society of Press Photographers in 1911. In 1914, he founded the Photographers’ Information Agency, which both commissioned and purchased photographs from other news photographers. The Photographers’ Information Agency accumulated a rich archive of historical photos taken between 1895 and 1972 by more than 500 photographers, which was purchased by the Mexican government in the 1976. Known as the Casasola Archives, the Casasola Collection, or Fondo Casasola, the Fototeca Nacional of the National Institute of Anthropology and History preserves and protects the archive in an old convent in Pachuca, Hidalgo.

Mirada y Memoria: Casasola Archives

Mirada y Memoria (Glance and Memory) showcases the photographic treasures of the Casasola Archives from 1900-1939. Among the historical events portrayed are two key periods of Mexican history, the Porfiriato, and the Mexican Revolution. The Photographer’s Information Agency not only documented major historical events as they happened, but also the new reality that emerged from them. The most unique feature of this archive is its strong historical vocation. The exhibit begins with two chapters regarding key periods of recent Mexican history: “The Porfiriato” and the Revolution. The photographs have been selected based upon their historical significance, but especially spotlight their quality and artistry. The chapters dedicated to modernism, justice and trades display the Casasola Agency’s ability to document the new reality that emerged from the Revolutionary War: the development of modernism as a formula for national development. All the sections, but especially the ones dedicated to the night and personages, showcase portraits that include anonymous people, politicians, artists or celebrities; all in which the Casasola developed a remarkable ability.

In mid-August 2012, ERIC removed all free full-text ERIC Documents from the web.

In September 2012, approximately 20,000 ERIC Documents were restored. These come only from peer-reviewed journals and from publications of the Institute of Education Sciences, a government agency.

In March 2013, an additional 21,000 documents published from 2005-2013 were returned to the web. These represent documents that were never available in any other format.

Other documents are being returned to the web on a case by case basis, at user request. The best guess is that ERIC takes 4-6 weeks to respond to user requests.

For current information on the status of the ERIC Documents, please check the message on the ERIC web site and ERIC News. Additional information may be available from the ERIC Weeding Project blog.

Pfau Library still has its microfiche collection of older ERIC Documents; however, no microfiche copies have been produced by ERIC since 2004. Ask at the Check Out Desk to have an ERIC microfiche document retrieved from Storage; you must supply the 6-digit ED number for the document you are requesting. Microfiche documents may be printed or scanned using the microform readers on our 4th floor.
